GPU > CPU > RAM > everything else
For gaming, the GPU is 70% of the experience. The CPU is 15%. RAM and storage are 10%. The display, keyboard, and 'gaming aesthetics' make up the last 5%. So when comparing two laptops at the same price, prioritize the GPU first, then the CPU, then everything else.
An RTX 3050 with an i3 will outperform an RTX 2050 with an i9. Don't let a fancy CPU distract you from a weak GPU.
GPU tiers explained (2025)
RTX 2050: 1080p Low-Medium on modern AAA games. Avoid for new purchases. RTX 3050: 1080p Medium-High at 60–90 FPS. The floor for any 'gaming laptop'. RTX 4050: 1080p High at 90+ FPS, with DLSS 3 for the next 2 years. RTX 4060: 1080p Ultra at 100+ FPS, or 1440p Medium. The sweet spot for most buyers.
RTX 4070 and above are for 1440p Ultra or 4K gaming — typically ₹1,20,000+ territory.
The display matters more than you think
A 144Hz IPS panel at 45% NTSC will feel fast but look washed out. A 60Hz IPS at 100% sRGB will look gorgeous but feel slow. For gaming, prioritize refresh rate first (144Hz minimum), then color gamut (100% sRGB is good, 100% DCI-P3 is premium).
Avoid TN panels in 2025 — they're cheap but viewing angles are bad. Avoid 250-nit displays — they're unusable in daylight.
RAM and storage — what's actually needed
16GB DDR5 is the standard for gaming in 2025. 8GB will choke modern AAA titles. 32GB is overkill unless you edit video. For storage: 512GB NVMe SSD minimum — modern games are 80–120GB each, so 512GB fills up in 4–5 games. 1TB is the right amount for a serious gamer.
